If anyone tells you MCYS is just about community bonding and small matters, pls think harder. Its about the social fabric, its about the youth (future of singapore), its about compassion needed to help those who cant catch up with the rest. Social Service in every hospital is not under MOH, but under MCYS.
In the last 5 years, with the downturn , joblosses, inflation, family problems due to gambling….the one ministry which could have been everywhere to help is MCYS. It needed a very active minister who could have been on the ground from day one to make lives better. Instead he was too busy with YOG. I dont care if we lost money on YOG, but that minister failed alot of people who needed help.
Accountability. If anyone needs to lose their Million dollar jobs for failure, its Dr Vivian. I read an article someone saying ministers making their monthly wages which was 600$ in a day. Infact, they make that money in an hour ! Family support income from MCYS is less than that in a month. Dr Vivian has asked why they needed more….are they eating at hawkercenters or restaurants.
This minister has never had a true contest. I am glad SDP has fielded an A team against him. He can easily go back to a million dollar opthalmologist job in SNEC. I hope the next candidate for MCYS will bring in what is needed for the needy.
