Having recently watched how a HR professional at Google goes through hiring process, which is pretty extensive, I was impressed at the meritrocratic methods and process to determine true work experience related to each project they may have performed in previous companies. one of the fundamental requirements seems to be accredited institutions where the candidate can only get in by merit. family background doesnt really come in play.
I wish our political party HR departments would have a look into such processes. In the past PAP used to bring out some top candidates. This elections has left alot to be desired. Is it that the processes used in past has been changed or that their top choices from good institutions just do not want to join PAP and are waiting to see what the opposition have to offer?
There seem to be some good candidates like the generals from the singapore army and an ex rafflesian lawyer. even our PM has admitted its difficult for PAP to find another A team. Is this not a failure of their HR department? Where are all the top lawyers, doctors, civil servants, businessmen who went to Raffles or Hwa Chong between 1988 and 1996? Like in Uk where oxford , cambridge, eaton grads are swallowed up by the parties due to the ease in which they can fill their A teams, PAP could depend on its premier institutions. Last elections there was one Chris D’Souza with potential ministerial material and now a Vikram Nair with such credentials. Where are the rest? Could this mean the rest of the potential A team are considering the opposition? We should eagerly await to see.
I refuse to accept there is no such potential A team left in singapore. I can still see many of my fellow schoolmates , overseas scholars, doing very well within singapore, within the civil service and beyond. 2016, 2021 should be even more interesting. Lots of work for the PAP HR to do.
